8th Emergency Environmental Health Forum Event Report

The 8th Emergency Environmental Health Forum (EEHF) took place from April 12th – 13th 2018 in Berlin, Germany. It brought together water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) experts from organisations such as Action Contre la Faim (ACF), the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Oxfam, the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement (ICRC, IFRC), Save the Children, UNHCR and UNICEF as well as academic experts from institutions such as the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Tufts University, Brighton University, IHE Delft, University of Buffalo and EAWAG. The forum provided an opportunity to exchange recent field experiences and explore innovative approaches amongst over 175 attendees and discuss ways for future action and interventions for WASH in emergencies.

The 7th Emergency Environmental Health Forum (EEHF) took place from 24th – 25th November 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal. 6th Emergency Environmental Health Forum - Event Report

This report summarises the proceedings of the 6th Emergency Environmental Health Forum which took place on 16th and 17th October 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya. Under the theme 'Water, Sanitation and Hygiene activities in Disease Outbreak Control', the Forum brought together WASH experts from numerous humanitarian organisations and academia to: encourage the exchange of field-level experiences; strengthen humanitarian agency institutional memory; keep field staff up to date with current research and evaluation findings; and help to identify subjects in the emergency environmental health sector that need more research.

Innovative WASH Interventions to Prevent Cholera

This article, part of an issue focusing on Cholera outbreaks in 2014, reviews and extracts lessons learned from community and household level cholera-prevention WASH interventions implemented to date. It concludes that further innovation, implementation, evaluation and research is needed to realise the full potential of such interventions.

Evidence on the Effectiveness of WASH Interventions on Health Outcomes in Humanitarian Crises: A Systematic Review

This journal paper outlines the findings of a systematic review that examined the quantity and quality of evidence on WASH interventions on health outcomes in humanitarian crises, and evaluated current evidence on their effectiveness against health outcomes in these contexts. It found the current evidence base to be extremely limited and reported that methodological shortcomings of existing evidence prohibited definitive confirmation on effectiveness in these settings.
