Justin Parkhurst, D.Phil, M.Phil is an Associate Professor of Global Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has an M.Phil in Development Studies and D.Phil in Sociology and Social Policy, both from the University of Oxford. Before joining the LSE he was based at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine where his work applied social science insights to health policy and systems issues. His previous work has included studies on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, including HIV policy in sub-Saharan Africa, and maternal health and health systems.

Justin’s recent work has focused on the use of evidence to inform policy-making – particularly investigating this from a political perspective. From 2011-6 he led the Getting Research Into Policy in Health (GRIP-Health) programme which specifically studied the use of evidence to inform health policy using political and institutional approaches. He has recently published a book  - The politics of evidence: from evidence based policy to the good governance of evidence – which is available Open Access.
