Pre-engagement meeting with Uganda

On 27 January 2017, the initial engagement meeting of Phase 2 of the LINK programme with the Uganda National Malaria Control Programme took place. This is part of the re-engagement process following the Phase 1 work in 2013 which included producing an epidemiological profile of malaria and its control. Representatives attended from National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP)/Ministry of Health (MoH), World Health Organization (WHO), Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA), Infectious Diseases Research Institute (IDRC)/ Uganda Malaria Surveillance Project (UMSP), Malaria Action Program for Districts (MAPD)/ United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Later, on 22 February 2017, the LINK programme attended Uganda’s Malaria Control Programme Monitoring & Evaluation Technical Working Group and gained an insight to the process of data use in Uganda among key stakeholders. Representatives from WHO AFRO, the NMCP, USAID, Makerere University School of Public Health Sciences, Clinton Health Access Initiative, IDRC, the Malaria Consortium and Jhpiego attended.

These visits were a valuable opportunity to meet key stakeholders are involved in Phase 2.
