Progress on Sanitation and Drinking Water: 2015 Update and MDG Assessment

As the MDG era comes to a close, this WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) for Water Supply and Sanitation report comprehensively assesses progress since 1990. Although much has been achieved, with the target for safe drinking water being met in 2010, there is still work to be done. The sanitation target has been missed by almost 700 million people and 2.4 billion people still do not have access to improved sanitation facilities. Robust and disaggregated data, insightful analysis and compelling presentation, such as that provided by the JMP to date, will be crucial in attaining the universal access ambitions enshrined in the new post-2015 Global Goals.
