WASH in Schools: Empowers Girls' Education

This report summarises the proceedings of the Second Annual Virtual Conference on MHM in Schools convened by UNICEF and the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University at UNICEF Headquarters on 21 November 2013. The conference aimed at presenting tools and instruments adopted in research on MHM in schools. The proceedings highlight the barriers and constraints faced by girls in school settings and provide important recommendations to improve programmes and policies. The report gathers case studies from more than fifteen countries in Africa and Asia, among which is the piloting conducted by WaterAid UK of SHARE-funded resource Menstrual Hygiene Matters in 21 schools of Kalaroa town in South West Bangladesh.
