SHARE is delighted to announce that we're looking for an enthusiatic Research Communications and Monitoring Volunteer to support our programme of work for 2-3 days/week for approximately 3 months.

What would the role entail?

A vital part of SHARE’s work is communicating our research findings to different audiences (academics, donors, policymakers, practitioners and the media) so that they influence policy and practice globally, regionally and nationally. The purpose of this role is to support SHARE’s Research Uptake Officer (RUO) in developing, disseminating and tracking engagement with high-quality, tailored communications outputs. These could range from blogs or videos summarising complex research findings to policy briefs highlighting the implications of SHARE research for policy and practice and offering recommendations.

This role will also support SHARE’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to improve SHARE’s information management and to analyse monitoring data.

What will you have achieved by the end?

The volunteer will have learnt more about WASH in specific national contexts in East and Southern Africa and gained a working knowledge of some of the challenges the sector faces. (S)he will have produced and disseminated communication materials that will be used widely by internal and external stakeholders. (S)he will have developed an understanding of monitoring and evaluation systems, particularly those relevant to research and research uptake, and challenges within a complex international development programme. (S)he will have gained experience working in a team towards shared objectives.

What are we looking for?

• Excellent written communication skills with experience of writing clearly for a variety of audiences and synthesising complex information
• Experience of using social media platforms and analytics
• Strong research skills and an understanding of quantitative and qualitative data
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work independently
• Strong interest in international development and the WASH sector
• Confident using Microsoft Office
• Fluency in English
• Experience of using content management systems (updating websites), InDesign and Photoshop would be useful, but is not required.
