Weaning Food Hygiene - The Gambia

Building on lessons learned from earlier SHARE-funded work on food hygiene and behaviour change, including the successful SuperAmma campaign in India, SHARE is currently funding a cluster randomised control trial in rural Gambia (Central River Region) that aims to substantiate the findings of the Nepal study through adaptation of the intervention to a different, more resource-constrained context. The less intesive intervention is being rolled out at District level by Buba Manjang, Environmental Health Officer in the Ministry of Health in The Gambia and PhD student at the University of Birmingham.
Formative research was carried out, after which the intervention was refined and delivered. A six-month evaluation has taken place and the study team are in the final stages of analysing the follow up of the evaluation.
