Introducing Our New GLUK Research Fellow

24 Feb 2017

Our partners at GLUK have a new Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. Here, they find out what she'll be working on and her hopes for the role.

GLUK/SHARE is honoured to welcome Sheillah Simiyu as our post doctoral fellow. Sheillah joined us on 1st December 2016.  Some of Sheillah’s roles will be; undertaking and coordinating research activities, developing her research area of interest, organizing and coordinating capacity development, contributing to policy briefs, research into use components of the program, and co-authoring publications in peer reviewed journals, among others.

We asked Sheillah to tell us a little more about herself and her hopes for the post doctoral role.

Tell us a little bit about yourself
I like to refer to myself as someone who enjoys research. I completed my Doctoral studies from Stellenbosch University (South Africa) where I did research on sanitation in informal settlements. I also hold an MPH and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Community Development) from Kenyatta University (Kenya).

What attracted you to GLUK/SHARE?
The focus on WASH, and the fact that it was an opportunity to continue with what I was doing during my Doctoral studies.

What are you most looking forward to about working at GLUK/SHARE?
I look forward to being part of the ‘Safe Start’ project, from its implementation to completion.

What will you be working on for the next few months?
I will be coordinating research activities within the ‘Safe Start’ project, organising the GLUK/SHARE symposium in April, and engaging in capacity development activities.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy outdoor activities such as jogging/running, hiking and travelling. I enjoy visiting new places, and playing around with the camera taking shots. Indoors, I enjoy cooking, music and movies.

At GLUK – SHARE we say welcome Sheillah. We look forward to working with you!
